steel doors
technical details
up and over and hinged
Steel doors are manufactured in various gauges of steel which is galvanized, then primed. The doors can be supplied with just this primer coat or can be finished in a variety of ways. Primed doors require top coat paint finish.
finish on the doors

powder coat
Powder coat is a finish applied as a powder mixed with plastic polymers and sprayed onto all parts of the door, after it has been constructed. This means that the front, back side and all bracings are coated. (similar to stove enameling) This finish is baked onto the door panel. Available from most manufacturers in white, also in black and brown from selected manufacturers. The finished coating has a slight orange peel effect and is usually a gloss finish. This is classed as a maintenance free finish.
Weather white
Weather white Weather white is a plastic material put onto the steel, whilst at British Steel, the door panel is then pressed into the desired shape. This is a very flat finish, and has a leather grain finish, i.e. a textured appearance. The side rails and bracing will only be primed. This is classed as a maintenance free finish.
Weather wood

Weather wood. Doors are similar to the manufacturing system of the weather white doors and are available in Dark Oak and Mahogany, The plastic material is embossed with the grain of timber and applied to the steel at British Steel, the door panel is then pressed into the required design. Only the door panel will be finished, as with weather white the rails and bracing will be primed. This is classed as a maintenance free finish.
GEAR
See page on gears and locking. All steel doors are available with canopy or retractable lifting gear. Doors can be supplied unframed to fit to a timber frame or with a steel frame, Steel framed doors have the lifting gear fitted to the frame in effect this means that to fit, you only have to bolt this frame square into the opening.
HINGED DOORS

Hinged doors are available in many of the designs show, but they do have a restriction above 8ft wide due to the weight of the door hanging off the hinges, some doors are available over this width.
LOCKING
See page on gears and locking. Most steel doors have 3 point locking on canopy doors, Most tracked doors have 2 point. High security Euro profile locking is standard on both canopy and tracked doors with the exception of Wessex Mouldings.
SIZES of DOORS and FRAMES
Doors can be supplied at a standard size or at any made to measure size, in general the frame should measure 70mm x 70mm, and the lifting gear fits to the back of the frame, also allow 70mm for the top or head of the frame. Frame can be fitted within the brickwork opening, or if possible, sometimes may fit at the back of the opening
