design

The design of the roller type door is dictated by the fact that it rolls up. The slats are horizontal in design. Doors can be made of pressed steel panels with the profile stamped into it, or flat Aluminum, but for strength and design we recommend the 3" curved slat.
how the gears work

The door has tracks which run up the vertical legs of the frame and the door panel rolls around the drum situated above the height of the door. The drum contains springs to help lift and close the door. The doors are push up controlled in the light weight doors but move on to chain operation at approx. 8' wide in the high security strength door. All doors can be electrically operated. The roller door is a very simple way to use a garage door and is probably one of the easiest manual doors to use.
high security roller shutter
Security doors are made of 20g Galvanized Steel. It is rolled into a curved lath to increase the strength and security of the door. The guides are heavy duty steel and up to 4" each side of the door sits within the guide at all times. Each door has the drum and springs individually manufactured to ensure that the door is made to the highest standard. This door can be supplied in its galvanized form. A plastisol finish (stock colour's only), or powder coated to any Ral colour at extra cost. This door is insurance approved.
heavy duty domestic door

The heavy duty domestic door can be of the same construction as the Security door. It can be 3" curved Insulated lath, or 3" un-insulated curved lath.
Doors are coloured by the manufacturer and the guides can be finished to suit the door colour or, if fitted behind the brickwork, can be galvanized to keep cost down. This style of door can be used in a smaller lath for window shutters.
light domestic door
The Domestic door is made up of a plastisol coloured panel of approx. 2'6" high, pressed into a horizontal shape and clipped to the next panel to form the door size. This must be seen as a light weight option, but it is very effective and much cheaper than the last 2 options. The drum for the door to roll onto is larger than on the other doors.
advantages

The main advantage of a roller door is the security features: the security door can have bullet locks fitted to increase what is already a very secure door. The door rolls up and doesn't swing out of the opening, and does not require horizontal tracks, therefore making full use of both inside the garage, including roof storage, and outside on the drive.
disadvantages
The roll of the drum can be the main disadvantage to this type of door, with the light domestic door requiring between 17-19" headroom, and the Security and heavy domestic doors requiring 12" headroom.
